Remodeling your kitchen is no easy task. From budgeting to selecting the contractor, you really need to make the right decisions in order to make this project move smoothly. One of the most duanting tasks is selecting your kitchen cabinets and tops.

As a homeowner, you can handle the purchase of your kitchen cabinets / countertops in one of two ways. Either have your contractor supply the kitchen countertops and cabinets while supplying an allowance or simply purchase them yourself and have the contractor install.

Both have their pros and cons however most of my customers go the route of me providing an allowance. They will then go to my supplier and pick out the cabinets and tops at my cost. If the cost of the tops and cabinets is above my set allowance then they pay the difference.

Why is this a better system? Well, its all about pricing and timing. Your contractor will be able to get a better price on cabinets from a reputable supplier. Also, the connection and contacts that your general contractor has with his suppliers should provide for a better experience shall some material fall short or item be damaged. His relationship with the suppliers will enable you to have that replacement item sooner than later.
